COMMISSION.
The British North Borneo Company to WILLIAM
HOOD TREACHER, Esq.,
or his Deputy lawfully appointed.
We, the British North Borneo Company,
in virtue of all grants, commissions, charters, and powers enabling us in that behalf,
and with the approval of one of Her Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State,
do by this our Commission under our seal, appoint you, the said William Hood
Treacher, until our further pleasure shall be signified, to be our Governor and
Commander-in-Chief and Chief Judicial Officer in and over our country of North
Borneo, comprising all our territories in and adjacent to the Island of Borneo,
with all and singular the powers and authorities assigned to the Governor of
our said territories in the instructions under our seal bearing date, London;
Which said powers we do hereby'
authorise you to exercise and perform according to such orders and instructions
as have already been or may hereafter be issued by us for the guidance of our
Governor; and subject thereto, with all powers, rights and prerogatives which
:we are capable of exercising by ourselves and of. granting, appointing, or
delegating to our Supreme Ruler, Governor-in-Chief; or Principal Representive in
the said country and territories ;
And for so doing this shall. be your
warrant;
And we do hereby command all and
singular our Officers, Chiefs, Datus, Pangerans, and other subjects in the said
country and territories, and all others whom it may concern, to take due notice
hereof and to give their ready obedience accordingly. And in case of the death,
resignation, absence, incapacity, or refusal to act, of you, the said William Hood Treacher, all powers, rights and prerogatives exercisable under this our Commission
shall vest in and be exercisable by any Deputy-Governor appointed or succeeding
in virtue of-any orders or instructions issued QY us in the same manner in all respects
as if the name of such Deputy had been substituted herein for the name of you
the said William Hood Treacher, until your successor shall have been duly
appointed and shall have assumed the exercise of his office.

second day of August, 1882.
